Trauma & Resilience Program
The Trauma & Resilience Program offers evidence-based individual therapy for adults experiencing posttraumatic stress and other difficulties related to traumatic experiences.
Concerns we can help with:
- Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Intrusive memories, nightmares, or unwanted reminders of traumatic experiences
- Avoidance of people, places, activities, thoughts, or feelings associated with trauma
- Feeling constantly on guard, unsafe, or easily startled
- Difficulties with guilt, shame, or negative beliefs following trauma
- Sleep difficulties related to trauma
- Difficulty reconnecting with important activities, relationships, or parts of life after trauma
Our Approach
Treatment in the Trauma & Resilience Program is grounded in evidence-based approaches for PTSD and trauma-related concerns. We recognize that people respond to traumatic experiences in different ways and that there is no single treatment approach that is right for everyone.
Treatment begins with a careful assessment of your experiences, current symptoms, goals, and treatment preferences. You and your clinician will use this information together to develop an individualized treatment plan.
Evidence-Based Trauma Treatment
For individuals experiencing PTSD, we offer established, evidence-based treatments including:
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), which focuses on understanding and working through thoughts and beliefs that may be keeping you stuck following a traumatic experience.
Prolonged Exposure (PE), which helps people gradually approach trauma-related memories, situations, and emotions they have been avoiding so that these experiences become less distressing and disruptive over time.
Other cognitive-behavioral and acceptance-based strategies may also be incorporated depending on your concerns, goals, and preferences.
Treatment is collaborative. Your clinician will discuss treatment options with you, including what each approach involves, so that you can take an active role in deciding how to move forward.
Individualized Care
Trauma can affect many areas of life beyond PTSD symptoms. Some people may also experience difficulties with sleep, managing intense emotions, relationships, or reconnecting with meaningful activities. When helpful, treatment may incorporate additional strategies to address these concerns. For example, this might include skills for managing difficult emotions, brief cognitive-behavioral treatment for insomnia, or acceptance- and values-based strategies. These components may be used before, alongside, or as part of trauma-focused treatment depending on your individual needs.
What to Expect
Treatment begins with an initial consultation designed to develop a detailed understanding of your current concerns and help determine which treatment options may be most appropriate for you. The consultation will include an interview about your history, current symptoms, experiences, and treatment goals, along with questionnaires assessing trauma-related and other relevant concerns. When appropriate, the consultation may include a structured clinical interview specifically designed to assess PTSD.
After the consultation, your clinician will discuss their impressions with you and provide treatment recommendations. Together, you will discuss available treatment options and your preferences for care. If the clinic is a good fit for your needs, you may be offered the option to begin therapy services with us. If another type or level of care would better meet your needs, we will do our best to provide tailored recommendations and referrals.
Coordinating Your Care
Some people seeking treatment for trauma-related concerns may benefit from additional services alongside psychotherapy, including psychiatric care or medication management. Our clinic does not prescribe or manage medications. When additional care may be helpful, we can work with you to identify appropriate providers and, with your permission, coordinate with other members of your treatment team.
