About Us

The RACE lab at the University of Texas at Austin, is an interdisciplinary team that conducts research at the intersection of early childhood education, developmental psychology, and social policy. We explore the relationship between Resilience and Adversity in Children’s Ecology—RACE— and Black children’s academic, social, and emotional development during the early stages of life (birth-through-8).

Specifically, we investigate the social and environmental determinants of children’s academic development by examining how poverty, racial discrimination, structural inequalities, and educational inequities influence access to quality early care and education and the developmental outcomes of Black children. Our goal is to identify protective factors that promote Black children’s optimal development.
