Initial Interview<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the initial interview (1-1.5 hours), you and your clinician will review your background, any specific questions that you are hoping to have answered, and establish the goals for the assessment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Assessment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You will be asked to complete various assessments that assist with meeting the goals of the assessment. These appointments range in duration (2-5 hours) and may require scheduling multiple blocks of time depending on your unique needs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Feedback<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the feedback session (45 minutes) you and your clinician will discuss and contextualize the results and, if appropriate, any evidence-based treatment recommendations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Therapeutic Assessment<\/summary>\n

Although all the assessments at the clinic are intended to be therapeutic<\/em>, Therapeutic Assessment (TA) is a specific type of brief intervention using psychological tests to give people a better understanding of their unique concerns. People come for a TA when they need help with a particular problem, want to understand themselves or their child better, or are facing a major decision they want input about. In TA, you’ll talk about the findings of psychological tests to reach deep understandings about you and your concerns and explore next steps. The clinicians who practice TA are guided by the values of collaboration, curiosity, compassion, humility, openness, and respect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How does a Therapeutic Assessment work?<\/strong>
TA begins with a discussion of areas of life that are puzzling or troubling to the person. The clinician helps you form unique questions to be addressed by the TA. For example, \u201cWhy do I let people hurt me and am not able to protect myself?\u201d; \u201cWhy do other people keep saying that I seem so angry?”; “What can I do to improve my communication?”;  “Am I smart enough to go to law school?\u201d; or \u201cHow can I make my parents trust me more?\u201d.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A central and important value of TA is collaboration. You and the clinician will work together to find complete and satisfying answers to the questions posed. Based on your questions, the clinician chooses tests that can best help answer them. Then you and the clinician meet and complete a number of tests. Your reactions and thoughts during the testing are important guides that influence the clinician. TA is a journey, taken together, with both experts (you and the clinician) contributing to the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of a TA, the clinician will discuss with you the results of the testing and answer you initial questions in away that fits with the your life history and circumstances. The goal is to help you arrive at ways of understanding themselves and their lives in a manner that is more accurate, useful, coherent, and compassionate.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

How to get started<\/h4><\/div>

Because the Psychology Department Anxiety & Mood Clinic is staffed by clinicians at different stages of their training, we take special care to match each person with a clinician who is well-suited to their needs.

To start this process, all individuals seeking services begin with a brief phone screening and consultation<\/strong> to help us determine whether our clinic is a good fit.

If you\u2019re interested in therapy services, the first step is to complete our online interest form<\/a>.<\/strong> This gives us a general sense of your concerns and your contact information so we can follow up with you.

A clinic staff member will follow up with a phone call to review clinic policies and assess whether our services may be a good fit for your needs. If appropriate, you\u2019ll then be scheduled for a consultation with one of our clinicians.\u00a0<\/p><\/div><\/div>

When & Where<\/h4><\/div>

Appointments are generally scheduled \u202fbetween 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday-Friday. Evening appointments are available on a very limited basis, Monday-Thursday.

Appointments are conducted either in-person or remotely via telepsychology platforms depending on individual needs.

The clinic operates on an academic calendar, meaning that we are not open during holidays or weather-related university closures and we cannot guarantee continuity of care during academic breaks (e.g., spring, summer, winter breaks).<\/p><\/div><\/div>

Cost<\/h4><\/div>

Assessments cost $300. The clinic charges a set fee for evaluations that includes the initial interview, the personalized battery of assessments, scoring, comprehensive report writing, and integrated feedback instead of an hourly charge. This allows clinicians to conduct very thorough evaluations.

Fees are to be paid at the time of each visit. We accept debit cards\u00a0and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, & Discover) as forms of payment.\u202f We do not accept insurance or cash payments.<\/strong>\u202f\u00a0

Our clinic fees are already significantly reduced to increase accessibility. However, we understand that even reduced fees may be a barrier for some individuals. We offer further fee reductions (as low as $75) and free parking for those experiencing significant financial hardship, please inquire with clinic staff.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n
