It encompasses the transition between three ecosystems: southern spiny desert, western dry forest, and coastal mangrove. Thus, the biodiversity in the park is very interesting. Lemurs have been the focus of much of the research at the field station, particularly the <a title=\"Sifaka\u00a0Research\u00a0Project\" href=\"http:\/\/labs.la.utexas.edu\/ankoatsifaka\/sifaka-research-project\/\">Verreaux\u2019s sifaka <\/a>(<i>Propithecus verreauxi<\/i>).
