3D methods for research and interpretation

We bring 3D documentation, immersive environments, and digital methods into collaborative research at The University of Texas at Austin. The lab develops ways to study objects, places, communities, and movement, connecting close observation with the knowledge and questions people bring to them.

About the lab

Based in the College of Liberal Arts, the lab connects humanistic inquiry with methods from across the humanities and social sciences. Our work ranges from collections and community archives to historical environments, body art, and the study of movement.

We build digital tools and research workflows that make interpretation open to examination. Attention to evidence, authorship, access, and collaborative stewardship guides how we document, model, and share this work.

Lab director

Craig Stevens is an archaeologist and Assistant Professor of African and African Diaspora Studies in UT Austin’s Department of Social and Cultural Analysis. His research connects archaeology, digital heritage, museums, and collaborative interpretation.
