Katayoon Karimi Goudarzi, MD.

Katy received her M.D. in 2004 from the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran.  She worked as a general physician in an economically underserved area in central Iran before coming to the U.S. in 2006.  She first joined the LSAD in 2007, while she was attaining a Master’s degree in Women’s Studies, with a focus in Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin.  In her initial work, she was part of a large interdisciplinary team investigating the cognitive, social, and biological risk factors for deployment-stress related psychopathology in soldiers.  Presently, she is involved in the analysis of neuroimaging data from this project.  In recent years, Katy has also conducted research on Metabolic Syndrome and Alzheimer’s disease, utilizing brain imaging and other biomedical markers.  In her spare time, Katy enjoys ballroom dancing, blues and Argentine tango, and two-steppin’.
